The topic of balance is extremely underrated and honestly something I believe strongly should be taught to everyone. Why? Because finding balance is hard.
Without any guidance or advice it becomes so easy for us to fall into the trap of imbalance and spend way too much of our lives, unhappy and unhealthy. Take this as lesson 101 in your journey to finding and keeping the balance of your life, a journey that will bring you innumerable amounts of happiness, abundance, and health.
I think the easiest way to find your balance in life is to look at the big picture of your life as a makeup of your relationships, health, and career.
You need relationships to be happy. Humans have been proven time and time again to be social animals-we want companionship, we want families, and we want friends.
It’s also quite obvious that we need good health to do pretty much anything that we want with our lives. Health doesn’t just mean being physically fit though; it also coincides with being mentally strong. The two go hand in hand and with one the other will come faster. As we treat our bodies well by exercising them and fueling them with fresh, natural whole foods our mind will automatically become more energized and in tune with our body.
By meditating, taking time for yourself, and growing your knowledge you’ll become intelligent, patient, understanding, and happy.
We also all need a career. A way to make money and earn a living… enjoyably. Something that we enjoy doing, have potential for upward growth as we evolve with age, and that makes us feel satisfied at the end of the work day.
Finding balance sounds easy but when you think about actually finding it it’s hard to figure out where to start. Let me help you.
Step 1: Finding Imbalance
The trick to finding the balance is actually in finding what has become imbalanced. How do you do that? Take 5 minutes out of your day to look at your career, your health, and your relationships and see which ones you are currently not happy with. It might be one, two or all three of them.
Make a bullet list of all of the things that make you unhappy about them. Make a separate list for career, health, and/or relationships and make sure to leave plenty of space to the right of your bullets.
Now it’s time to make some changes!
Step 2: Creating Balance
Take your bullet list of everything that makes you unhappy about your career, health, and/or relationships and next to every bullet write down how to fix what is making you unhappy. Make sure you’re writing down things that you can start doing right now.
For example, you might have written
I want to have a better relationship with my father
So next to that bullet, you would write how to go about having a better relationship with your father. You could write,
- Call my father more often.
- Go to lunch with my dad more often.
- Watch the game with my dad more often.
When you have finished writing down how you are going to fix everything you dislike about your current situation, take a step back and look at your lists. You have just outlined exactly how to bring back the balance in your life. Everything you have written down can be started today. In a week from now imagine the balance between your career, relationships, and health that you could have. Now imagine a month, a year, five years?
This is an exercise that you can do whenever you need to guess and check a certain part of your life. If you are feeling out of control, overwhelmed, or just plain old sad in a certain facet of life, make your bullet list and then write what you can do right now, right here to fix it. Then do that every day until you have found your balance again.
It takes constant adjustments and tweaks to make sure that we are always balanced because our lives are always succumbing to small changes. Be aware of the fluidity of your life and be the man or woman in charge of keeping everything afloat by making sure that you are constantly finding and keeping the personal balance that works best for you.
Use your career, relationships, and health to make the big picture of your life a beautiful and unique masterpiece.
